What Are You Afraid Of?

Fearless

Fear has been something that has troubled me off and on over the years.

I think every child is afraid, the dark or the monster under the bed, or in t closet.

Have you ever wanted to do something, go somewhere, wear a new outfit, but were too afraid to do so?

About 10 years ago or so, my brother and his wife were killed. Afterwards, I was troubled by severe panic attacks. This was in response to a new found sense of fear that was present in and seemed to be growing in my life.

We don’t have to live in fear. God created us to live enjoyable, fruit-filled lives.

I took me a while and I sought the help of my doctor, but I prayerfully got over my fears.

Anything can cause a fear response in us. These things can be real or imagined.

The one thing I’ve learned to do is prayerfully face my fears so that I can Fear Less.

Today I wanted to share a few verses from God’s word about fear or that will encourage you if you are fearful.

Deuteronomy 31:6 – So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

Joshua 1:9This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Psalm 27:1 – The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:14 – Wait patiently for the LordBe brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Psalm 33:18 – But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.

Psalm 34:4 – I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:7 – For the angel of the Lord is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.

Psalm 112:1, 7 – Praise the LordHow joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.

Romans 8:28 – All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord, those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:31 – If God is for us, who can be against us?

Isaiah 54:17 – No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn.

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

John 15:7 –  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

Isaiah 43:1-2 – But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you blaze.

Isaiah 40:30-31  – Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;  but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

This is not an exhaustive list, but it has a few of my favorites.

I go back to these verses often and read and speak them over my life. I do not want to live in fear because God wants me to be strong, fearless, and undaunted.

I can’t live my best life in fear. Fear is the trick of the enemy to hold us back and prevent us from living lives at our full potential.

I hope these verses inspire you to be fearless.

Father, as we read and study Your word, help us to face our fears and rely on you to help us be over comers! We know with you all things are possible. Amen.
