What Influences You?

Deuteronomy 13:4 – Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.

Loved the scripture today! It was a reminder to cling to God and his word and only listen to or be lead by those who are in alignment with His word. In order to do this I must first know what His word says. I must therefore be resolute in doing what I KNOW is right.

We live in a world today where everything goes. It almost seems like the word of God has gone to the wayside. How do I live right in this type of culture.

As a believer, I have to learn to live counterculture. I need to filter everything that I see, hear, and consequently do.

This starts with a daily examination of the things that I engage in in a very purposeful way.

What types of ungodly influences have I allowed into my life? Am I being careful to avoid those influences as much as possible or do I secretly give in to them? Do I participate in gossip, bullying, or exclusionary behaviors that sometimes harm others? All of these are contrary to the word of God.

I must have my spiritual shield up at all times and monitor what I digest and how I act on it. This includes being careful about the people I’m hanging around, the things that I read, listen to, and the activities I participate in.

Prayer – Father, help us to be on guard against undesirable influences all around me. Help us to be a positive spiritual influence in the lives of others and NOT be negatively influenced by them. Teach us Your ways and help us to understand and apply Your word to our lives. Amen.
