Lay Aside

Therefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, putting aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us, let us run with patient endurance the race that has been set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the originator and perfecter of our faith.  Hebrews  12:1-2

It’s almost time.  I start chemotherapy this Friday, September 13th.  I think about the 13th and all the bad connotations associated with this number and this day.  I know in my heart that if God is for me, who can be against me, but still I’m nervous.  The cancer was removed on 8/6/13 and the doctors are confident they have it all.  The chemo is just a precaution to protect against spreading and any further re-occurrence.  It’s a necessary procedure.

I’ve been on Facebook and here on this blog sharing my experiences and trying to lift others up as well.  I clearly see so much anger, negativity and distrust out there.  Our enemy the, devourer, prowls about like a lion, seeking whoever he may destroy.  I see him spreading seeds of discord, disharmony, and despair everywhere.  What do we do in times like these?  Where do you go, who do you turn to?

There is only one place you can go to for peace and restoration and that is at the feet of our God.  So I decided to fast and pray this week.  I going to stay away from any and all things negative and only focus on the positive.  I’m laying aside anything that would distract me from the race set before and I’m going to run it with patience and endurance.

As I do so, I’m repeating a few positive affirmations to keep my mind firmly fixed on my Savior and just how great and powerful he is.

  • If God is for me, who can be against me?
  • By His Stripes, I am healed.
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
  • Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord.
  • Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them from them all.
  • All things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

How do you focus on our Savior?  Do you have any affirmations that you speak over your self? I encourage you today to go through the scriptures.  Find some uplifting words and speak life into your situation, your family, your finances, your church, everything.  I’m taking all of my worries and I’m laying them aside…. and putting them at the feet of our God.  Be blessed today.
