We Must Learn to Be Content


I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.  Philippians 4:11-13

Content –  sufficient for one’s self, strong enough or possessing enough to need no aid or support, independent of external circumstances, contented with one’s lot,

Can do – to be strong , to be strong in body, to have power, to have strength to overcome. 

All this – each, every, any, all, the whole.

I looked up the Strong’s definitions for some of our verse above and what I discovered is this. With Christ, we can be satisfied in any situation for we have the power through him to overcome any and all things!

How is your life today?  Are you living the life that you thought you would?  Our Dare today was to Choose Contentment in Your Relationships.  We can easily look at others and find everything that is lacking in them, but we as Christians are called to something better.  We are called to grace and mercy!

As we interact with others, we must learn to look at them through the lens of Christ’s love for us.  They are not perfect, they are disobedient (just as we are), but they are loved and therefore deserve forgiveness and another chance.  How can we do this?  Here’s a list of a few things we can all do.

  • Always think positive and banish negative thoughts with prayer.
  • Look for the best in ever every situation, not the worst.
  • Don’t take it personal.
  • Forgive and move on.  We must forgive others just as we have been forgiven
  • Don’t judge.  Keep an open mind.

Today, we are called to be content in our relationship with others.  That begins with a good attitude.  We need to focus on the positive and not the negative.  Let’s direct our thoughts up towards God, who we know can handle any situation and can give us the strength to persevere through anything.

Father, thank you for showing us how to be content regardless of the situation we find ourselves in.  Thank you Lord that we can handle any situation that comes our way with your help. We can rest assured knowing that you are working all things out for our good.  We can cast all of our cares on you, knowing that you care for us in return.  Lord, teach us to love our fellow brothers and sisters with heart like yours.  Amen.

  1. Favorite verse ever. I broke it down using the Rick Warren Pronounce it method in 40 days in the word this way

    Me as a person can do a action,task,or goal with no limits in my weakness with God’s strength.

    Watch a sporting event,Olympics, or any event when one is called to action. It’s adrenaline to some extent but mostly faith that things can be accomplished. And with faith the size of a mustard seed,much can be accomplished.
