God, your God, chose you out of all the people on Earth for himself as a cherished, personal treasure. Deuteronomy 7:6 MSG
I’ve been participating in The 30 Day Faith Dare with some ladies from the Women’s Bible Café the last few weeks as our summer bible study. The Faith Dare is a 30 day devotional by Debbie Alsdorf. This devotional is divided into four parts with a different dare to focus on each day. The dare for day 12 is “Dare to Believe You Are God’s Treasure and of Great Value to God”.
This is my favorite dare so far. Women today have a difficult time. Our society has set some unrealistic standards for what is thought of as beautiful and who is thought of as worthy. Many, many women go through life with skewed self images because of the day in and day out onslaught of what society classifies as beautiful. We a bombarded by images on commercials, in print ads, and on TV shows. We think we have to be a certain size, buy designer clothes and bags, live in a fancy house, drive certain cars…all to fit into what others think is acceptable. However, when we go back to the scriptures, we see that we are God’s cherished, personal treasure. He accepts us as is. We don’t need to look a certain way and our valuables are nothing to God.
So many people are missing this. They’re not taking the time to read and dig into God’s word to see how he feels about the people he created. On the sixth day God looked back on everything he had created and saw it was very good. (Gen 1:31) If you’re not paying attention here you could miss the fact that we are included in this …….men and women who are created in Gods own image. (Gen 1:27)
This is what Debbie Alsdorf says….”He set us apart from birth, carries us through life, and holds us this moment. He will never lay us down, put us down, or separate us from his love. He has called us his woman, his treasure, his holy people, and the sheep of his pasture.”
I just love that. I think its important that as we read scripture we remember what God says about us. The world can put you down and if you don’t have some positive affirmations to hold onto you could get discouraged and beat down. What better positive affirmations can we have than those found in God’s Holy Word?
Everyone should have a list of scriptures that they can go in times of trouble. We should write on note cards, keep them in a journal, and hide them in our hearts. They need to be easily accessible so we can refer to them as needed. Below are a few of my favorites….
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed…..Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. Deut 28:3-7
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1-2
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5
Are you reading and studying the Word of God today? Do you know what He says about you? If not, today’s a great day to start. Remember who you are in Christ. Don’t ever let anything take that away from you. You were created by God to do good things. You are His child, His daughter, His special treasure. Take this thought and seal it in your heart. Don’t ever let it go. We are not who the world says we are, we are who God says we are.
